Resource Hints

The first draft for resource hints has been released by Ilya Grigorik from Google. We covered another one of Ilya’s spec in edition #47 about client hints but although they’re similar names they’re not related. Resource hints allow you to specify when to open http connections, preload, prefetch and prerender elements and could be quite helpful for responsive apps.

This specification defines preconnect, preload, and prerender hints that the developer, or the server generating or delivering the resources, can use in an interoperable way to assist the user agent in the decision process of which origins it should connect to, which resources it should fetch to improve performance, and which resources may be required by the next navigation
