Why We Banished the Hamburger Menu

By removing the hamburger icon and making a persistent tabbed navigation on this iOS app the team at Rebooth double the number of sessions, the time for each session increased by 70%, and they saw a 65% increase in daily active users.

While I realise these figures and example are based upon a native app it’s worth testing out how your menu options are fairing for your website across different viewports and whether an alternative is better.

As we built out the new version of the app, we released early versions to our internal employees to help us validate the new design (and look for bugs). And maybe it shouldn’t have surprised us at all when they said they loved the new navigation — after all, they’d helped design it!
